Return to Ravinia Festival

Marin Alsop returns to Ravinia this summer to lead the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in three weeks of performances as the festival’s chief conductor. On July 12, Alsop and the CSO open their summer residency with an all-American program featuring works by Copland, Johnson, Barber, and Gershwin. Additional festival highlights include performances of Beethoven’s Fifth (July 13) and Mahler’s Ninth Symphony (July 20) and appearances by soloists Hayato Sumino (July 21) and Augustin Hadelich (July 25). Alsop closes her Ravinia season conducting the CSO in a space-themed concert featuring Holst’s The Planets and Amanda Lee Falkenberg’s The Moons Symphony Suite with the Apollo Chorus of Chicago (July 26).
