The University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (MDW) has announced conductor Marin Alsop as the new Artistic Director of the Webern Kammerphilharmonie. Alsop makes her first public appearance with the orchestra on October 4th, 2026, at a benefit concert held in the Casino Baden for the Licht ins Dunkel charity.
As the Webern Kammerphilharmonie’s Artistic Director, Alsop will lead the ensemble and offer conducting instruction to students at the university. Alsop and the orchestra will also serve as public ambassadors of the university.
Alsop’s presence in the city of Vienna and its musical community dates back to 2019, when she was appointed the Chief Conductor of the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna.
