Marin Alsop has featured in BBC Radio 4′s 2018 Woman’s Hour Power List, celebrating women who are demonstrating power and innovation in the music industry. The list was revealed live in a special programme hosted by Jenni Murray and broadcast on Friday September 28, BBC Music Day.
Marin came in at No.8 on the list, which was decided by judges Kate Nash, Catherine Marks, Jasmine Dotiwala and Jessica Duchen. Headed by Beyoncé, the list also featured classical luminaries such as Southbank Centre Director of Music Gillian Moore, violinist Nicola Benedetti and Managing Director of the London Symphony Orchestra Kathryn McDowell.
Of this year’s list, Woman’s Hour say:
“The judges have been debating the power held by singers, songwriters, musicians, composers, record company executives, the women running events and venues, journalists and broadcasters. They’ve been looking for women demonstrating power in the industry: innovators and ground-breakers supporting and championing the work of other women or changing the industry from within – making it more equal, diverse and creative.”
