From Monday 27 May until Saturday 1 June, Marin Alsop will be conducting the final of the 2013 Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, this year devoted to the piano.
A record number of applications were submitted this year from all over the world and screened by an international jury. On 18 May, the chairman of the jury announced the names of the twelve candidates who have been selected to go through to the final of the 2013 piano competition. Marin Alsop will conduct the twelve finalists and the National Orchestra of Belgium at the Brussels Centre for Fine Arts. For more information on all 12 finalists click here.
Talking about her involvement with the competition, Marin said: “Working with these 12 amazingly talented young artists is an inspiring experience. Accompanying is easily the greatest challenge out there for a conductor and an orchestra. The National Orchestra of Belgium and I are fully committed to making each pianist a winner!”
From Monday 27 May at 8pm CET, you will be able to follow Marin Alsop and the finalists live on the Queen Elisabeth Competition website. Each night two pianists will perform a sonata, a previously unpublished imposed work with orchestra and a concerto of their choice. To watch and listen live click here.
