Marin to celebrate Bernstein centenary and more in Southbank Centre’s 2017/18 season!

As part of the Southbank Centre’s 2017/18 season Marin will conduct a new staging of Bernstein’s Mass to coincide with Leonard Bernstein’s centenary year. The Mass will be performed as part of a Bernstein weekend (6-8 April 2018) celebrating the spirit of idealism, protest and questioning of the mid-twentieth century, embodied by the great American composer, conductor and educator.

Marin will conduct a diverse cast of young people from local communities in the Mass – a work that captured America at a moment of crisis. Directed by Southbank Centre Artistic Director Jude Kelly, the performers include the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.

Marin will also conduct the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment on 4 February 2018 to conduct a Beethoven program, including his Symphony No. 4 and Violin Concerto performed by Nicola Benedetti who makes her debut with the orchestra.
