Marin guest-conducts in Philadelphia and makes her Chicago Symphony Orchestra debut

Marin Alsop is to conduct the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra for concerts at the Kimmel Center on October 29, 30 and 31, 2015.

The program for each includes Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue with Gershwin specialist Jon Kimura Parker. Together they play the original version of the piece, which was commissioned by the legendary bandleader Paul Whiteman. The orchestra also performs Shostakovich Symphony No.5 and Schoenberg’s orchestration of Debussy Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune.

The Philadelphia Symphony is a very special orchestra for Marin, being an orchestra that gave her a break very early on in her career. Click here to watch Marin speak about her relationship with the orchestra in 2011.

Jon Kimura Parker will join Marin to perform Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue again in Chicago at the end of November when Marin makes her debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Concerts will take place on 27, 28 and 29 November 2015 at the Symphony Center. The programme opens with Masquerade by Anna Clyne and also includes Barber Essay No.2 for Orchestra, Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue and Dvořák Symphony No.7.
