Marin Alsop returns to London’s Royal Festival Hall next week for two concerts with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, of which is a regular guest-conductor, as part of the Southbank Centre’s The Rest Is Noise Festival. Alsop’s first programme on 20 February explores European composers’ influences from the New World: Dvořák’s Ninth Symphony ‘From the New World’; Milhaud’s La création du monde; Varèse’s Amériques.
On 22 February, Marin Alsop conducts a celebration of “American Mavericks” – Ives, Gershwin, Copland and Joplin. Garrick Ohlsson is the soloist for two piano concertos: Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and Copland’s Piano Concerto.
Marin Alsop and the London Philharmonic Orchestra perform at the Brighton Dome on 23 February in a programme of Dvořák’s Ninth Symphony, Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and Copland’s Piano Concerto (with Garrick Ohlsson), and Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man alongside Joan Tower’s Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman.
