Marin Alsop opened her first season as Principal Conductor of the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra (OSESP) with concerts on March 8 to 11. Alsop conducted Shostakovich Symphony No.5 and Mozart’s Piano Concerto, K.482, with soloist David Fray. The concerts opened with the world premiere of Terra Brasilis – a work based on the Brazilian National Anthem – by the young Brazilian composer Clarice Assad.

There are exciting plans for Alsop’s 2012 season with the orchestra, with a European tour in place for August 2012, including an appearance at the 2012 BBC Proms in London on 15 August and a concert in the Robeco Summer Concerts series at the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, on August 19.
