Highlights from BSO’s inaugural New Music Festival

This weekend showcased some of the best new music around as Marin Alsop and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra launched their inaugural New Music Festival. Co-curated by Marin and cellist Inbal Segev, the Festival took place in three venues in Baltimore; a Chamber Music concert at the Peabody Conservatory, a Chamber Jam at Joe Squared Pizza and Bar, and the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.

The festival offered a varied lineup of composers covering different nationalities, generations and styles, including two BSO premieres by Polish composer Agata Zubel and a world premiere by Syrian-American Malek Jandali. In addition, familiar Baltimore composers long championed by Marin were featured – a BSO premiere by Christopher Rouse and a previous BSO co-commissioned work, “The City”, by Kevin Puts.
