The final stop in the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s summer 2018 tour will be in Dublin.
On August 29, music director Marin Alsop will lead the BSO in a ‘Bernstein Birthday Celebration’, the opening concert of the 2018-2019 International Concert Series at Dublin’s National Concert Hall. The orchestra will be joined by virtuoso violinist Nicola Benedetti as soloist for the all-Bernstein program, which will also be performed on August 25 at the Edinburgh Festival. Marin will also conduct the orchestra at the BBC Proms in London in between the Scottish and Irish legs of the tour. The performances in Dublin, and at the Edinburgh Festival and BBC Proms will be the orchestra’s debut.
Marin has a close connection with Ireland with her grandfather being Irish. Talking about the performance Marin said: “I can’t wait to bring my orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra to Dublin, to the place where my grandfather was born, where I have my own Irish passport, and where I get to revisit my roots. It’s something I am really excited about.”
