The São Paulo Symphony Orchestra (OSESP) and Music Director Marin Alsop, have launched their 2017 season themed “A Greater World”. With 32 signature programmes, this new season will include 30 concerts conducted by Marin Alsop including a special cycle she will conduct on the theme of the “Hero”.
The OSESP Conducting Academy was the initiative of Marin Alsop. Over the course of the year a select group of students have had the opportunity to learn conducting techniques and repertoire under her leadership leading up to a free public concert at Sala São Paulo.
In a month where all eyes will be on Brazil as it hosts the Olympic Games, Marin brings her São Paulo Symphony Orchestra (OSESP) to Europe this Summer for performances at some of the world’s most prestigious summer festivals: Edinburgh (August 22), BBC Proms (August 24) and Lucerne (August 26).
Marin Alsop is to return to the BBC Proms for three concerts this summer. In a season that celebrates Latin American music, Marin brings her Brazilian orchestra OSESP to the BBC Proms. She also conducts the Orchestra of Age of Enlightenment in Verdi’s Requiem.
On Sunday December 13, Marin conducted a free outdoor concert on Gonzaga beach in Santos, the traditional end to OSESP’s season. Closing the 2015 season, the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra performed Gershwin’s Cuban Overture, music from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 and with the OSESP Choir and Academic Choir, excerpts from Handel’s Messiah.
Marin Alsop and the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra have announced their 2016 season “State of Listening”. Spanning 32 weeks, the 2016 Season will feature ten programmes led by Marin, Music Director of OSESP, who will open and close the Season with Mahler’s First and Second Symphonies.
It was announced today that the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra have extended Marin Alsop’s contract as Music Director until December 21st 2019.
