The OSESP Conducting Academy was the initiative of Marin Alsop. Over the course of the year a select group of students have had the opportunity to learn conducting techniques and repertoire under her leadership leading up to a free public concert at Sala São Paulo.
Marin Alsop is supporting a campaign by film maker James Bartolomeo to make a documentary short about the BSO OrchKids. The aim is for the film to be the cornerstone of a broad and far-reaching awareness campaign.

OrchKids, the outreach program set up by Marin Alsop, has been selected as a recipient of the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program (NAHYP) Award at the White House. The news comes ahead of another exciting opportunity for BSO OrchKids who, as well as Marin and 32 musicians from the BSO, will perform at the Ravens’ Thanksgiving Day game on November 28.
On Saturday night Marin made history as the first woman to conduct the Last Night of the BBC Proms. She conducted the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus as well as soloists Joyce DiDonato, Nigel Kennedy and Iestyn Davies to an extremely enthusiastic and patriotic audience of over 6,000 inside London’s Royal Albert Hall.
