When Marin finishes this year’s Cabrillo Festival, which runs July 31-Aug. 13, she will take her final bow after 25 years at the helm as Music Director, showcasing new music by living composers.
Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, America’s longest running festival dedicated to new music for orchestra, has announced its 54th season program running from July 31 – August 13, 2016. The 2016 Festival will be Marin Alsop’s final year as she steps down as Music Director after 25 years.
An exciting two week celebration of new music is fast approaching as composers, artists and the Cabrillo orchestra all come together for the 2015 Festival. Although not until August (2-16), behind-the-scenes it’s busier than ever as preparations get underway. As the weeks lead-up to the Festival, Marin will be providing her own insight into the work that goes into being Music Director, often from the other side of the world!
From August 2-16, Santa Cruz will become a nexus of creativity as Marin Alsop and the amazing Festival Orchestra, 12 composers in residence and 5 international guest artists come together once again for an incredible festival dedicated to contemporary music.
2014 has been another busy year for Marin Alsop. Although the year has been tinged with sadness after losing both her parents and her dear friend Mary Whitaker, there have also have been many highlights. Here is a summary of just some of the many events that have taken place this year.
