Marin Alsop is the recipient of the 2017 Ditson Conductor’s Award for the advancement of American music, Columbia University has announced. The prize was presented on Saturday evening, September 16, at a concert by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, part of the Orchestra’s 2017-18 season opening weekend.
This weekend showcased some of the best new music around as Marin Alsop and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra launched their inaugural New Music Festival. Co-curated by Marin and cellist Inbal Segev, the Festival took place in three venues in Baltimore; a Chamber Music concert at the Peabody Conservatory, a Chamber Jam at Joe Squared Pizza and Bar, and the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall.
On Thursday February 11, 2016, Marin will lead the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in a special anniversary concert at the Joseph Meyerhoff Hall as the Orchestra celebrates turning 100.The concert will be the highlight in a series of Anniversary Week events from February 10-14, marking the Orchestra’s inaugural concert that took place on February 11, 1916.

OrchKids, the outreach program set up by Marin Alsop, has been selected as a recipient of the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program (NAHYP) Award at the White House. The news comes ahead of another exciting opportunity for BSO OrchKids who, as well as Marin and 32 musicians from the BSO, will perform at the Ravens’ Thanksgiving Day game on November 28.
The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) announces that Music Director Marin Alsop will continue her commitment to the Orchestra with the signing of a six-year contract that extends from September 2015 to August 2021, her second contract renewal with the Orchestra.
