2015 has been a very successful year for the Taki Concordia Conducting Fellowship. Valentina Peleggi was announced as the new Fellow for 2015-17 and two more Associate Fellows were also announced; Marzena Diakun and Ruth Reinhardt.
As the year draws to a close, Marin reflects on some of the recent successes of her new Fellows and asks you to join her in supporting the Fellowship to continue the great work it does for aspiring women conductors:
I’m very happy to share that Valentina has recently been appointed Assistant Conductor of the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra. Her tenure begins at the turn of the new year and I look forward to working closely with her in the coming months.
Valentina recently participated in a workshop for women conductors at London’s Southbank Centre, and spent some time with me at rehearsals at the Barbican with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. It is a great pleasure to work with her and our wonderful Associate Fellows, all of whom are doing outstanding work.
Marzena continues her tenure as Assistant Conductor of the French National Radio Orchestra, and Ruth is currently the Seattle Symphony’s Conducting Fellow. Both Marzena and Ruth spent an eventful summer as Conducting Fellows together at the Tanglewood Music Festival. Our Honorable Mention winner, Lidiya Yankovskaya, recently participated in the Dallas Opera’s exciting new Institute for Women Conductors. All are progressing beautifully.
We are very grateful for our continuing relationships with our partnering orchestras and mentors across the country and abroad. The experiences they offer our Fellows are extremely valuable, enabling them to hone their craft and leadership skills in a supportive, professional environment. We look forward to joining together again in these partnerships in the coming year.
The Taki Concordia Conducting Fellowship has dramatically influenced the number of women succeeding in the field. Our past Fellows are currently engaged with orchestras in Belgium, Dallas, Chicago, Hartford, Memphis, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, and Reno, and are guesting with many others. Nevertheless, women as a whole continue to face great challenges in the field. I continually encourage our Fellows to transform these challenges into opportunities, and to move forward with greater resolve.
In order to make greater advances I have expanded our program to include three enormously talented women this Fellowship term. I ask that you support our growth by doubling your financial commitment. Your generosity is critical to achieving the Taki Concordia Conducting Fellowship’s goals.
Please join me in this important effort by going here now to make your tax-deductible donation!
Thanks to all of you for making our mission a reality.
